5 Best Surf Shops in Bali

Great Shops For Surfers In Bali

Surf factory outlets have sprung up all over the island in the past few years. Two of the biggest are along the Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai, hard to miss on your way to Kuta’s Dewaruci roundabout from the airport. Most of them sell lower-quality products, and their store layouts can be a little tedious, offering ‘sale’ and ‘discount’ board shorts and surf-brand shirts.

Nevertheless, Bali has a selection of several serious signature surf stores that are not part of the regular pack. These special few offer not only top-quality, premium brand items, but also a variety of attention-grabbing side features – such as trendily designed interiors, dedicated surfboard shaping rooms, and delightful corners where board riders can enjoy their caffeine fix as well. Here are our top picks.

Deus Warung of Simple Pleasures

This neat shop along Jalan Kayu Aya in Seminyak is an extension of the Deus Ex Machina in Canggu, the first Bali endeavor of the custom retro bike and big boys’ toys trademark hailing from Sydney. Housing a full range of Deus Ex Machina fashion items and bags, handmade bikes, custom motorbikes and functional retro surfboards, the warung (‘traditional roadside food stall’) features a spacious interior display, alongside a cafe that presents a menu of nibbles, sandwiches and good coffee blends. Have a wholesome chocolate brownie or banana muffin with your latte, and then amble around the detailed showcases inside checking out the rack of multicolored surfboards against an ironwood wall backdrop, or a unique over sized fresco of a bike engine. In brief, it’s a great place for coffee, motorcycles, sandwiches, surfboards, bicycle tires, T-shirts, books and wax. You can also find other surf brands in store.
